A short interview with Henning Sehmsdorf on the Homestead
The S&S Homestead Foodbook
By Elizabeth Simpson and Henning Sehmsdorf
The Foodbook contains a number of essays on various topics related to food, as well as recipes, information about nutrition, methods of food preservation, and culinary tips. This book is guided by the philosophy that communities can feed themselves, that foods grown organically and locally, and eaten seasonally, are best for health, for the environment, and for community economy. The book is a work in progress, and essays, recipes, an index and bibliography will be added as they are completed. Some of the essays have been written by former interns as part of their on-farm projects. The illustrations were done by Kelley Palmer-McCarty who participated in the on-farm high school class in 2007 and was an intern on the farm in summer 2009.
