On S&S Homestead Farm, we milk two Jersey cows, and we used to provide milk shares to community members until the Washington State Legislature saw fit to make raw milk shares illegal unless the farmer became a licensed dairy producer and processor, which is cost prohitive at small scale production. Because of this, the milk produced on the farm is now mostly processed into butter and cheese for home consumption, and the whey used for food fermentation and to feed pigs and chickens.
